Shift happens – when you reach for happiness
” I’m willing to let my own sad opinions grumble away in the background – and not let them stop me from living from my own genius and inspiration…” Lucinda
Ever had those days or weeks maybe … when you feel kind of blah, and lack lustre and no peace to be found in any of the corners of your life?
Read on for simple solutions I’d love to share with you
Do you find yourself exhausted by the end of the week, knowing you’ve been super busy every day and yet can’t remember exactly what you have done or accomplished? Then you look at your list of things still to do and it’s even bigger?
I notice when I have days or a week like this it’s very easy to feel fed up and unable to think straight. But, mainly I have three kinds of thoughts that run along the following lines:
“What’s wrong with me – why can’t I do better?”
“If they could have behaved better, cooperated, and helped me…..”
I start worring about what might happen if I don’t get it together!
These are haunting thoughts that can get stuck in our heads, replaying themselves over and over again in vain attempts to find solutions, when we are tired and overwhelmed.
I find the longer I stay asking myself what went wrong-
the more helpless I feel in finding an answer…
the bigger the whole problem becomes …
until, finally I feel like I am the only one in the world dealing with this much difficulty!!!!
I keep this quote visible in my apartment to remind me when my perspective has gone wonky! 🙂
We all have times when no matter what we do, life just feels a bit too much.
We forget the pleasure, the delight and the unlimited bounty of good things and people in our lives.
Here are two super simple Rituals to help you shift your perception and feel your pleasure again!
You want to get out of bed every morning feeling alive, happy and filled with plans don’t you?
Yet you probably leap out of bed and fall into your days just following the same pattern you did the day before, and the one before that.
When we live all day long thinking only of whats the next step, we lose our clarity, our ability to problem solve or to feel pleasure!
Creating your day simply:
Before you even step out of bed in the morning take a few moments to contemplate the day to come –
and get clear about what are the three most important things that need doing?
Write them down.
Can you delegate anything? Get help?
Do you easily ask for help? Could you start asking?
Why would you do this?
- Getting clear brings your focus to one thing now instead of being splattered all over the place and getting everything partly done.
- When you do one thing at a time you get more done.
- Narrowing your focus increases your creativity
- You get to experience the energy and feel of completion.
- Completion brings deep pleasure
- You learn to trust you can finish something!
What gives you pleasure?
I am a great proponent of the grateful journal. It’s been proven over and over that when we train our minds to look for the good in our lives, our brain actually begins to automatically do that BEFORE it looks for what’s wrong!
However, my NEW favourite practice is a Pleasure journal.
Instead of just making lists of things you are grateful for, you write a sentence about the pleasure you feel about something.
“Feeling the heat of my tea cup in my hand and the taste of deliciously soothing tea warming me from the inside out, is my favourite wake-up in the mornings”
This quite literally forces you to come out of your head, away from the day to come to come, away from the future and – into your body, into this moment, remembering what feels good, what comforts you, what makes you smile and want more of.
Why would you do this?
- To slow down your mind and create some breathing space
- To remember there is pleasure in your life – it’s not all about “what you have to get done”
- Feeling pleasure creates memories in your cells of feeling instead of always doing
- You become more creative in getting things done with more ease.
If you can do this for for 21 days straight – AWESOME! and I guarantee you, YOU will notice a big difference in how you feel.
Be gentle with yourself, if you have a habit of starting and then giving up often. Begin with ease, and if you don’t do this practice every day -practice consistency by not giving up if you miss a couple days. Start again the next day!

Are you overwhelmed in your life or anxious about a decision you need to make? Are you ready to make changes in your life and ready to start helping yourself, but you just don’t know where to begin?
I believe everyone knows what they want, but life sometimes just gets in the way and we think we have forgotten. We forget that we have all the right questions and all the right answers inside us – and that’s where I come in!
I love working with people and watching them take charge of their lives. Helping them discover next steps and seeing them take them. So that when they hit another “bump-in-the-road” they know what to do for themselves!
Just contact me and let’s book a “Clarity Session” to discuss how we can work together so you can take charge of yourself and your life again.
I’d be delighted to talk to you.
