Define Your Own Rules for Happiness

When I was writing this on Monday it looked like the day would possibly be warm and sunny I was so hopeful for more of that fabulous heat and sunshine we had at the weekend. But, as luck would have it, that was not to be the case.

It’s unsettling isn’t it, the weather being sooooo moody!

So although it seems we still have some little way to go, before really enjoying the warmth and light that spring usually brings, what better time than now, to re-group and re-prioritize, and even re-invent ourselves, and the lives we find ourselves living!

What better time than now to be proactive about what we can do to renew ourselves and to better balance our lives.

Could you give yourself permission to be open to new ways, to ask for help, to expand your vision, to grow in compassion toward yourself and just let go of having to be right or wrong?

Suffering through the long cold winter weeks, have you found reasons to justify putting off your “To Do” list for another day? Telling yourself that you’ll wait until you are more excited about doing it, or more mentally, physically or financially prepared?

How’s that been working for you?

Not so well huh…

Do you know Why?

Because we as human “Beans” have made procrastination into an art form!

We have this incredible knack of finding the perfect excuse to not quite start things and then wonder why we aren’t accomplishing all that we could BE in this life.

So with the promise of warmer days ahead, regardless of the cold starts we have each morning how about ‘unleashing your brilliance’ on the world anyway!

Take a moment now, and think about how you would feel to just get started on what you’d like to accomplish next.

What one thing could you do for yourself that would shift your feeling “bad” about what you’re not doing to some thing like

“maybe, I could do ….. ”

Then, hold that thought or image in your mind so that you can come back to it when you need a reminder. And find a picture or image of something inspiring and put it up where you can see it daily!

Don’t scare yourself with a giant step, just think of something small and manageable, and if you’re willing to practice something consistently it’s amazing the changes you can make in your life.

Place your focus on what’s best about you and your life, gently shift your focus from what’s wrong to what’s good – and feel a smile tug at the corners of your lips and heart… see! can you feel just a little better and more enthused?

Then ask yourself “what do I need next?” Just stay with what’s next, rather than jumping to how can I change my whole life today!

The following ideas are some of the things I have been investigating and practising in my own life lately, and they really help. I hope you enjoy and find something in here helpful to you!

10 Powerful Habits to incorporate into your life!

1.Live your own story, not someone else’s version – People know your name, not your story. They’ve heard what you’ve done, but not what you’ve been through. So take their opinions of you with a grain of salt. In the end, it’s not what others think, it’s what you think about yourself that counts. Sometimes you have to do exactly what’s best for you and your life, not what’s best for everyone else.

2. Let go of the idea of “failure” – You will fall  or falter sometimes, or make a choice that just doesn’t work out well for you … that’s okay! The faster you accept this, the faster you can get on with being brilliant. Your past does not equal your future. Just because you fell yesterday; or all day today; or a moment ago; or for the last six months; or for the last sixteen years, doesn’t have any impact on the current moment. All that matters is what you do right now.

3. Be decisive about what you want. – You will never leave where you are until you decide where you would rather be. It’s all about finding and pursuing your passion. Neglecting passion blocks creative flow. When you’re passionate, you’re energized. Likewise, when you lack passion, your energy is low and unproductive. Energy is everything when it comes to being successful. If you don’t know exactly what you want yet, then fill your life with things and people that you love, new hobbies, a change of routine, anything that makes you feel good! Pursue what makes you happy and slowly but surely you’ll begin to find a new way of living, new choices and more fulfilling dreams.

4. BE THE CHANGE you want in your life. – There are two primary choices in life: to accept conditions as they exist, or accept the responsibility for changing them. Follow your intuition. Don’t give up trying to do what you really want to do. When there is love and inspiration, you can’t go wrong. And whatever it is you want to do, do it now. There are only so many tomorrows. Trust me, in a year from now, you will wish you had started today.

5. Choosing to do something. – Every day is a new chance to choose. Choose to change your perspective. Choose to flip the switch in your mind from negative to positive. Choose to turn on the light and stop fretting about with insecurity and doubt. Choose to do the work that you are proud of. Choose to see the best in others, and to show your best to others. Choose to truly LIVE, right now.

6. Let go of having to be right. – If you keep on saying you’re right, even if you are right now, eventually you will be wrong. Aim for success, but never give up your right to be wrong. Because when you do, you will also lose your ability to learn new things and move forward with your life.

7.  Face the things you know need your attention. – We make life harder than it has to be. The difficulties started when… conversations became texting, feelings became subliminal, sex became a game, the word ‘love’ fell out of context, trust faded as honesty waned, insecurities became a way of living, jealously became a habit, being hurt started to feel natural, and running away from it all became our solution. Stop running! Face these issues, fix the problems, communicate, appreciate, forgive and LOVE the people in your life who deserve it.

8.Decide instead of excusing. – Life is a continuous exercise in creative problem solving. A mistake doesn’t become a “failure” or a big issue until you refuse to correct it. Most of the things in our lives that we see as “failures” are more often than not the outcome of  having made excuses instead of decisions.

9. Notice all the GOOD in your life. – What you see often depends entirely on what you’re looking for. Do your best and surrender the rest. When you stay stuck in regret of the life you think you should have had, you end up missing the beauty of what you do have. You will have a hard time ever being happy if you aren’t thankful for the good things in your life right now. Try Grateful journaling.

10. Appreciate the present moment. – We do not remember days, we remember moments. Too often we try to accomplish something big without realizing that the greatest part of life is made up of the little things. Live authentically and cherish each precious moment of your journey. Because when you finally arrive at your desired destination, I guarantee you, another journey will begin.

Wishing you inspired adventures on your happiness journey this week!
