Welcome and hello!
YEAH – to beautiful sunny warm weather at last!
I do love this time of year, after the long cold winter we’ve had this weather is just doubly sweet isn’t it
It feels so much easier to greet life with open arms when the sun is shining down on us
Time to open the windows, shake loose the winter habits and welcome in a new season of personal growth!
Every day I am so happy the air still has that little chill in it. I love the warmth but, I’m also, all for a slow transition between now and the sweltering heat that arrives later.
Both nature and we human “bean”s are poised for new buds and projects. And while we humans are itching to fast forward now the sunshine has arrived; notice around you how nature is still pacing itself, creating deep roots and foundations to sustain itself through the coming months.
It is the nature of spring-time.
So I invite you to slow down
We all know that our lives are overbooked, and it seems to be getting worse. I think all of us would agree we are often much busier than we really need to be.
Are we creating extra work and obligations for ourselves by thinking we’re more essential than we actually are? You may not like that question but I’m pretty sure your body and spirit need you more than your laptop, friends and even family.
Ask yourself -If I’m not as important as I previously imagined, can I make more space for me? Absolutely!
I just want the next few weeks to go slowly so I can breathe in cool air and relish the warmth of the sun in my cheeks.
Or the wind rush by as I cycle by the lake
Lick ice-cream dribbles from between my fingers
Feel the crunch of warm sand between my toes again.
By slowing down there’s an opportunity to notice what’s going on around you, and notice yourself, LIVING your life, instead of watching days rush by unseen and unacknowledged.
It’s been so cold and dreary for so long why wouldn’t you want to savour each moment now!
Enjoy everything you’re involved in, stop rushing to get everything perfectly done. Enjoy the moment.
Enjoy each moment. Because, there’ll never be another one like it again.
Your participation isn’t always life-and-death. Could your colleagues run that meeting with out you. Can your family do more things without your participation (and yes, even clean up the mess!).
Pay attention and separate fact from fiction and discover a treasure trove of time sitting right under your nose.
There will always be more emails to read and another demands on our time.
Don’t be scared to power down and say NO, this is my time!
Life is messy. Work is messy. Accept the mess, but then do something about it.
Create healthier habits for continued wellness.
I believe that self discovery is the most important item on our to do list. Self discovery is about unearthing and celebrating the goodness about us that we might otherwise not notice. Self discovery breeds peace and patience in our lives.
But it’s not easy.
One of the hardest parts of self-discovery is our own lack of interest. Knowing this doesn’t mean you have to change. It doesn’t have to mean you have to want to change. Just Knowing is enough responsibility to begin with.
Because once you know, you no longer need to feel a victim, you no longer need to point a finger at someone. It can be a great relief to know that YOU hold the reins here.
Many of the private clients I work with, come to me initially because they lost interest in their lives and in themselves. They don’t care to pay attention, because they are bored with what they see and they can’t find a way out from this view
This is why one of the best ways to have a life of growth and self-knowledge is to make it interesting. When you focus on creating a life that excites you, that gets your own attention, then self discovery is easy.
You see yourself. You notice yourself.
An ultimately, you discover yourself.
Practice disappointing people. I don’t mean purposefully going around driving everyone crazy, I mean start doing only what you can reasonably manage in a day. You are going to disappoint people. It’s not your problem. You’re not doing anything wrong.
Yes, you’ll feel guilty. You also get to decide if you’re going to let guilt stop you doing what you know you need to do. Acknowledge the feelings, and then give yourself permission to let them go. Guilt is a completely useless emotion. The only purpose it serves that I can see, is to keep us tied to doing things for others that THEY want us to do, that WE don’t want to do! So make peace with guilt. Guilt is just a poisonous illusion anyway
Keep emails and make time online more productive. Just because someone sends you a long, chatty email doesn’t mean you need to respond in the same lengthy fashion. The busier we get the more our inboxes become small continents.
Here’s a thought: Hit delete. YES I said it! You know there’ll be another one soon reminding you again, its the nature of the beast now. Meanwhile, there’s a walk outside waiting for you, some planting or a chair in the sun with you name on it!
You can’t give it all, all the time. Doing less is often more than enough. So many of us get caught up in the perfectionist trap and “think” things have to be a certain way when really they could be simpler and less work and effort. I knew someone who worked themselves into absolute craziness over their garden every spring. I imagined it must be the size of a small farm by all the carryings on that came up when it was discussed. Imagine my shock when I finally got to see it, how ordinary it was. Yes it was beautifully manicured and laid out, but I was speechless at how could this garden have caused so much incredible anxiety, distress and energy. Perfectionism!
So be less than perfect. It’s not lazy. Enjoy the journey, the doing of whatever task you’re involved in. And then stop and smell the roses.
You can’t have it all. You can still be ambitious, run your own business, heal your body and be a nurturing and committed lover and parent — just not 100 percent of the time. We have to make choices and sacrifices. And even if we could have it all, why would we want it? ALL of that takes a lot of additional work and at the end of the day, the moment we’re done, we’re onto the next thing anyway. We weren’t put on this planet to live like the energizer bunny and only stops when we give out and die.
We’re supposed to be awake and attentive and caring and being cared for, to learn and grow to share and live harmonious lives doing what feels good. I think we’re supposed to be trying everything out, trying everything on and seeing what keeps our hearts happy and our mouths smiling!
Don’t sweat the small stuff. Things like getting stuck in traffic, coming home to a messy house after traveling, getting stuck in the rain, having to use another treadmill at the gym because someone was on “mine” can send up up the wall in frustration. But there comes a point in time that you realize getting mad at certain things is just plain silly. You have no control over traffic, and who cares if the house is messy? It’s just a little rain, you won’t melt…and good grief, surely you can find another piece of equipment to use while you wait for the “halloed” treadmill of choice?
Stress just keeps you wound up aggravated and bitter. Practice letting that stuff go.
You are worthy just sitting still. This is the big one for me that I love! . When I am still, I hear my body’s subtle messages before they get too loud. In music and art, the beauty comes not only from the notes and the lines, but from the spaces between them. In life we need our spaces, we hear better, think better and feel better. It’s where inspiration, inspired next steps and creativity come from.
Creating space is probably one of the best investments you can make for your sanity and health and with the warmer weather you have no excuse to not hear that deck chair calling your name!
Slowing down is not about lowering your standards or shrinking from life. You matter. You are important. The world would be far less awesome without you. And, believe it or not, it will still keep spinning even if you step back and nurture yourself.
Wishing you all peace and roomier days
Are you overwhelmed in your life or anxious about a decision you need to make? Ready to make changes in your life and ready to start helping yourself, but you just don’t know where to begin?
I believe we all have the knowledge we need inside us, but life sometimes just gets in the way and we think we have forgotten.
We forget that we have all the right questions and all the right answers inside us – and that’s where I come in!
I love working with people and watching them take charge of their lives. Helping them discover next steps and seeing them take them. So that when they hit another “bump-in-the-road” they know what to do for themselves!
Let’s talk we can book a “Clarity Session” to discuss how you can take charge of yourself and your life again.
