Reasons to Smile every day!

20 Satisfyingly simple pleasures

In my article today I talk about the idea of simple pleasure. This time of year is a great opportunity to perfect the discovery of new pleasures, revive old ones and indulge in and savour them regularly.

Your Body Heart and Spirit will thank you!

Put pleasure and enjoyment on the top of your to-do-list today.

Just make the choice to consciously savour at least one new simple delight each day.

“There are two ways to live: you can live as if nothing is a miracle, or you can live as if everything is a miracle.” –Albert Einstein

They say the best things in life are free.

NOT always true

– Did they FORGET about chocolate? 🙂

But, it’s true, life is filled with an infinite number of simple, ordinary pleasures that we often overlook when we’re busy surviving and chasing the big stuff.

Or maybe we just forget to look?

“The more you are motivated by love, (i.e. pleasure) the more fearless and free your actions will be.” -Katherine Mansfield.

It’s too easy to miss the simple “gifts of pleasure” in our lives, and they are right under our noses just waiting to be discovered and savoured!

One of my absolute favourite reasons to smile every day is the one cup of cream laced, very strong Italian coffee I drink in the morning. It’s absolutely a taste of heaven for me.

I do believe that even my eyelashes smile!

What about those moments when you suddenly realise all is well in your world. You breathe in deeply, a smile spreads across your face, your shoulders drop, you settle back into your seat with a sigh – Ahhhhhhhhhhhh but life is sweet….

Freshly washed sheets on your bed, and on hot nights sliding your leg across and finding a cool spot

Crying with laughter – Life shimmers in the moments when you are laughing so hard you can barely breathe. Don’t you just love the aliveness and delight you feel in those moments.

Crunchy sand between your toes

Popping bubble wrap…

The Feeling After a Healthy Workout – How good is that? Hot muscles, tired and satisfied, thrilled with an accomplishment – why it’s enough to make you feel on top of the world!

The First Sip of a cold Beverage When You’re Parched – You just finished mowing the lawn, home from a long walk or a bike ride.

A day with nothing planned, you can relax in the shade, read and doze to your heart’s content and order in supper.

Fleeting Unexpected Connections – You pass him on the street or in the subway. He glances up at you momentarily, making direct eye contact in a way that seems to communicate a subtle curiosity. For a split second it makes you think… and then it’s gone. You continue on, smiling.

The taste and feeling of your favourite chocolate melting in your mouth.

Slowly unwrapping the tissue paper that holds your Pretty New Underwear.

A new recipe that turns out perfectly.

Shopping for healthy farm produce in the local market!

A drive through parking spot in the exact place you wanted.

Hearing a favorite song playing when you didn’t expect it.

Making the Yellow Light – It’s one of the most common simple pleasures, the act of beating the pack. As you blaze through the yellow light you glance in your rearview to see all the cars behind you stopping at the red light. Yes! You made it!

Being wrapped up in a really great hug.

Realizing You Have More Time to Sleep – Something abruptly awakens you and you think it’s time to get up. Then you squint over at your alarm clock and realize you still have 2 more hours to sleep. Oh Bliss Oh Joy!

A hot shower with a new shampoo or soap.

People Watching – Tall people, small people, thin and plump. Blond, brunette, and redhead. Each of them has a different stride and a unique expression. As you drift from body to body you are mesmerized by what you see.

A bowl of Greek yogurt, fresh plump juicy red raspberries topped with muesli.
