The Pain and Beauty of Life Changes

Today is the 21st Day of the 42 Day Gratitude Challenge on my Facebook page.

To be honest when I started I thought it would be easy.

I keep a regular grateful practice going as a matter of course.

But I quickly discovered there is a huge difference between just keeping a private journal where it doesn’t much matter what I wrote or whether I got a bit lazy about it some days, because it was only me reading it.

And a public one where I am SEEN. It has really humbled me at times, keeping up on those days when everything goes “pear-shaped!”

It has stretched me no end to write about gratitude, keep the picture quotes going and write about my own gratitude.

Thankfully!!!! for the last few days it’s suddenly become much easier and a great deal more pleasurable and gratitude right now feels surprisingly effortless and natural.

But I’ve had many, many days when I just wanted to quit.

It was harder at the beginning, I thought of quitting on myself often.

But I didn’t.

It’s so tempting to quit on goals and dreams and ideas. They require courage, hard work, and faith.

It’s easy to quit on your own life and self-growth when it gets hard, and no one acknowledges you or pays you for what you do.

Quitting on yourself requires nothing special.

Not quitting is better

Way better.

Sometimes what’s harder is better.

Not quitting is a skill.

You need to practice it.

You have to not quit…


I practice it when I exercise.

When I dread a difficult conversation.

Quitting does give you the temporary relief and the indulgence of releasing a challenge.

But it denies you the honor of completion.

The experience of accepting yourself.

Of kicking fear and doubt in the head.

Of overcoming the stumbling blocks to feeling your own achievements

And the satisfaction of knowing when it got hard, you didn’t quit.

So far this has been a great experience and I’d love you to join me.

Because there’s still another 21 days to go!
